Featuring over 135 lots from an avid San Francisco Bay Area collector and fan, the auction offers an intriguing range of items, most of them autographed by sports stars or famed musicians.

The sports memorabilia include items from baseball, basketball, football, boxing and hockey. Among the baseball lots are signed bats, jerseys and cards from the World Series Champion San Francisco Giants in 2014, 2012 and 2010; signed baseballs by Ozzie Smith and Hank Aaron; bats signed by the San Francisco Giants team and Buster Posey; photos signed by Frank Thomas; and other images. Basketball offerings include an NBA Golden State Warriors basketball covered in Swarovski crystals; balls signed by Shaquille O’Neal, Jason Kidd and the 1992 U.S. Olympic Dream Team; and signed photos of Magic Johnson, Joe Smith, and Larry Johnson.

For boxing fans, there are autographed boxing gloves, including by Manny Pacquiao, Oscar de la Hoya, Mike Tyson, Ricky Hatton, Robert Duran, Joe Frazier, and Marco Antonio Barrera; plus several souvenir boxing gloves. Among the football offerings are helmets (full size, mini or replica) signed by Bo Jackson, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Dick Butkus, Emmitt Smith, Barry Sanders, Andrew Luck, and a few teams; several signed footballs

and jerseys; and numerous framed photos and/or sports cards of celebrated players and teams, many signed. A highlight is the autographed “Legends of Sports” framed Gold Edition, featuring signatures of Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Mohammed Ali. Signed hockey sticks by Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe round the sports collectibles.

Rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia include signed album covers, most framed, by Metallica; Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young; Pearl Jam; Jethro Tull; Bad Co; Staind; Alice in Chains; U2; and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Among the many signed and framed guitars are ones from Paul McCartney, U2, Kiss, Guns ‘n’ Roses, Slash, Rush, Jimmy Page, Nickelback, Metallica, Seether, Stone Temple Pilots, ZZ Top, Pearl Jam, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, The Who, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Green Day, The Black Crows, and Chickenfoot. There are also several signed posters and framed posters, including for the “Batman” movie, Acoustic 4 A Cure, Staind and Sammy Hagar. Limited edition collectibles of John Lennon and Slash complete the auction.

Amassed over 40+ years, these sports and rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia were acquired by an avid collector from San Francisco’s East Bay. Known and beloved by family and friends as “Uncle Mike,” he was “generous and charismatic, loved to spread joy, and lived life to the fullest,” said his niece. Starting as a youth, he collected thousands of sports cards, progressing to a vast collection of sports and rock ‘n’ roll items as his tastes and purchasing power changed.

A star high school athlete in football who had thoughts of turning pro, he was an enthusiastic fan of many sports – football, baseball, boxing, and more – and had season tickets to many events. Uncle Mike was also passionate about music, attending over 1000 concerts, often taking family or friends. He met numerous artists and groups, including Velvet Revolver, Guns ‘n’ Roses, and Stone Temple Pilots.

Over the years, countless weekends were spent in Las Vegas attending the sporting or rock ‘n’ roll events he loved. There he acquired many items, both from a dealer and other collectors. Uncle Mike was serious about preserving his prized possessions: almost all are cased or framed. His collection was proudly showcased throughout his home, with one entire room dedicated to these collectibles. Now, as his estate is settled, other collectors have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of Uncle Mike’s long and ardent passion acquiring one-of-a-kind sports and rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia.
